I began my career in photography as a journalist. That is my first love in photography. I have worked for a number of publications over the years, including small town papers like the Golden Gate Gazette, university daily papers like the University of South Florida Oracle and then moved on to the St. Petersburg Times. The variety of work environments was solid gold for me.

I thrive on challenges and new opportunities. Each of these environments presented its own special challenges each day. Also, at these publications I was blessed to be mentored by many great

photographers, writers and publishers. Each of them encouraged, challenged and guided me as a I grew as both a photographer and writer. I am forever indebted to them for their leadership and friendship.

This type of broad experience has given me a unique approach to my work. The approach is much the same for long term independent projects documenting the life of orphans and missionaries or the day to day deadline-based journalism at a daily paper. Both require a sensitivity to people and the ability to see beyond the moment to capture the images that illustrate the truth.
